Kiku Foods, a healthy Asian American snack company nestled in Orange County, reached out to [Studio] Moona Mäkelä for a rebrand, as well as new label designs.
With a profound respect for Asian American flavors and ingredients, Kiku Foods wanted to infuse their visual identity with a touch of nostalgia, authenticity and playfulness. Drawing inspiration from Japanese family crests and Chrysanthemum flower, we sought to pay homage to the brand's Asian heritage. The hand-drawn finish of the primary logo evokes a sense of relaxation and natural beauty, mirroring the laid-back California lifestyle that serves as the brand's backdrop.
Our design approach for Kiku Foods also embraced a vibrant color palette that merges youthful energy with soothing muted tones. Inspired by the exuberance of poppy colors and the tranquility found in nature's earthy hues, we carefully curated a selection of shades that uplift the senses. Weaving together the symbolic colors of the Japanese and American flags, we sought to create a harmonious blend that aligns seamlessly with the brand's captivating story. This intentional fusion pays homage to the dual cultural heritage that Kiku Foods embodies, encapsulating the spirit of unity and diversity.
